Discover Buddhism in South Korea
Buddhism in Korea is unique in that it developed into a distinct form known as Tongbulgyo Buddhism (“interpenetrated Buddhism”). The early monks of Korea aimed to overcome what they saw as inconsistencies in Mahayana Buddhism, and as a result a new holistic approach was founded. Korean Buddhists mainly follow the Seon Lineage, however there are many other prominent sects that align with more esoteric teachings.
